This game has word cards with long vowels. We played the game and then I had the students sort the cards based on the long vowel that they heard (so we had piles for long a, long e, etc.). Then we looked at each of those piles separately and sorted them by the vowel patterns (such as ace, ai, ay, etc) so that students could see the patterns that make the long vowel sound. Of course, you can just play the game too! Click on the bee to download the Long Vowel Bee Game:
Words with -ough and -augh can be difficult for students, so I created the next game to provide them with a chance to practice these words. After we played this game, I asked the students to sort the cards into piles of their choice. The sorting seemed to help them, and the next time we played the game it seemed much easier for them.
